CorrectDeck RapidRail® Installation

RapidRail Installation Video Watch Video

These instructions are intended to guide you through the process of assembling your new CorrectDeck RapidRail system. While there are several ways of approaching this project, we have found this approach to be the simplest while insuring the final results will meet your expectations of a CorrectDeck product.

Gather 4x4 posts, top and bottom rails, hardware post caps and skirts, and carriage bolts appropriate for your framing from your RapidRail or RapidRail CX kit. The railings are pre-routed to accept the balusters, and are attached to the posts with angle brackets.

The guardrails come from the factory at 931/2"+ 1/2-0" long. The routed hole locations are calculated from the center of the rail out to each end, so you can use the guardrails for any span less than 8' by cutting an equal amount from both ends. Standard balusters come from the factory at 361/4" (371/2" for CX balusters) resulting in a 42" railing. For a 36" high railing, trim the standard balusters down to 301/4" (311/4" for CX balusters).

One squash block is required for all spans. Maximum post-to-post center distance is 8' (96"). This span uses a 921/2" guardrail; the guardrails come from the factory with some trim stock on each end, as do the posts which are 55"+1/2-0.

1. Measure inside dimension from post to post and mark the centerline on deck. Match center of top and bottom rails to centerline between posts, by simply laying rails on deck and transferring the mark, or use a tape measure if you prefer.

2. Attach a 33/4" long support baluster (squash block) under the center of the bottom rail by drilling a 21/2" trim head screw down through the mortised hole in center of bottom rail. Note: when installing CX railing (above), the squash block is installed with a ball connector instead of the 21/2” trim head screw.

3. Mark holes, pre-drill and screw L-brackets to the underside of the bottom rail flush with the outside edges. The long side of L-bracket is installed to the rail. Pre-drill and screw bottom rail to posts.

4. Insert two balusters into routed holes at each end of the bottom rail section. and temporarily install top rail.

5. Mark locations for L-bracket holes on posts.

6. Remove top rail and pre-drill and screw brackets to posts.

7. Install remaining balusters into routed holes of the bottom rail.

8. Place top rail onto the L-brackets and insert balusters into the top rail.

9. Pre-drill and screw top rail to L-brackets at both post locations.

10. Install post caps & gently tap into place.
